Governor’s mother was rounded up on Modoc National Forest land in Northern California while pregnant. He was born at the Modoc holding facility. At about a month of age, Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center CEO Mary Behrens adopted his mother and took them to her ranch, along with another mare and a foal, who we named Smoke. When the colts were about 2 1/2 years old, they came to Free Rein. Governor soon earned a reputation as the playful hat-grabber.
